Circular Knives and Circular Blades
Circular knives are precision cutting tools with a round or disc-shaped design. They are used in rotating cutting systems for slitting, trimming, cutting, separating and perforating a wide range of materials.
Unlike straight machine knives, circular knives rotate during the cutting process. Depending on the machine and application, a circular knife can work against a counter knife, an anvil or another circular blade. This makes circular knives suitable for continuous cutting processes and high-volume industrial production.

Circular Knives for Industrial Applications
Circular knives are used in many industries and cutting applications, including:

  • Paper and cardboard processing
  • Packaging and converting
  • Plastic and film processing
  • Textile processing
  • Recycling
  • Food processing
  • Metal processing
  • Rubber processing

The design of the circular knife depends on the material being cut, the cutting principle and the machine configuration.
Circular knives can be manufactured with a smooth, serrated, toothed or specially shaped cutting edge. The appropriate edge geometry is selected according to the required cutting performance.
Circular Knife Materials
Material selection is an important factor in the performance and service life of a circular knife.
Depending on the application, circular knives can be manufactured from:

  • Tool steel
  • High-alloy tool steel
  • Stainless steel
  • High-speed steel (HSS)
  • HSS PM
  • Carbide

The appropriate material depends on the material being cut, operating conditions, cutting speed, required hardness and wear resistance.
For highly abrasive materials or applications requiring extended service life, carbide or other wear-resistant materials may be suitable.
Circular Knife Dimensions and Geometry
Circular knives are available in different diameters, thicknesses and cutting geometries. Important dimensions may include:

  • Outside diameter
  • Inside diameter or bore
  • Knife thickness
  • Cutting angle
  • Edge geometry
  • Number and position of mounting holes

These dimensions can be manufactured according to the requirements of the machine and application.
The cutting edge may be smooth, serrated or toothed, depending on the material and desired cutting result.
Manufacturing of Circular Knives
The manufacture of high-quality circular knives requires precise machining and grinding. Heat treatment and hardening can also be important for achieving the required combination of hardness, toughness and wear resistance.
Precision grinding produces the required dimensions and cutting-edge geometry. The quality of the knife blank, heat treatment and grinding process all influence the performance and service life of the finished circular knife.
Custom Circular Knives
We manufacture custom circular knives and circular blades according to customer drawings, specifications or samples.
Depending on the application, we can produce customized:

  • Knife diameters
  • Bore diameters
  • Knife thicknesses
  • Cutting angles
  • Cutting-edge geometries
  • Mounting holes
  • Serrated or toothed edges

This allows circular knives to be matched precisely to the respective machine and cutting process.
Grinding and Resharpening
Many circular knives can be reground and resharpened after wear. Precision regrinding restores the cutting edge and can extend the service life of the knife.
Regular inspection and professional grinding can help maintain consistent cutting quality and reduce the cost of replacing circular knives.
If you require industrial circular knives, circular blades or custom slitting knives, send us your drawing, sample or technical specifications. We manufacture circular cutting tools for a wide range of industrial applications.
